Start at Zero: Leading High-Stakes Modernization in the Age of AI
Start at Zero by Abhijit Verekar, a Phase Zero guide for leaders facing ERP and AI decisions.
Hardcover, 276 pages, ISBN 979-8995453505 (ASIN B0GZFQLDJ3). Published April 20, 2026.
I wrote Start at Zero for the leaders who are already in motion on an ERP or AI decision and can’t afford to start in the middle of a vendor demo, because in my experience organizations don’t stumble for lack of tools; they stumble when nobody owns the outcome and the decision was never written down before procurement began. The book draws on more than 30 public-sector engagements and walks through Phase Zero: naming the owner, settling what success looks like and getting the data and process ready before the vendors arrive.
